UCT Food Bank

Request for donations to purchase non-perishable food and sanitary products for the Science Food Bank. 

I am currently employed at the University of Cape Town as the Student Development Officer in the Science Faculty. I am running this campaign in my private capacity to raise funds for the student food support programme that I run in conjunction with the Science Students’ Council. 

As you are probably aware, UCT attracts the brightest students from across South Africa and from a wide range of economic backgrounds. The recent changes to the NSFAS funding structure has meant that many of our students have lost their funding and are trying to complete their degrees without any source of income. As such, we have many students that deal with food insecurity. This often means that many of our students go for long periods of time without being able to eat proper meals. Fighting hunger whilst also trying to study is not an ideal situation and means that many of our students are not in a position to be able to learn effectively.&...
