The Human Rights Screened Foundation’s flagship programme uses tailor-made film festivals to raise awareness of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). Through these engagements, we found that many people did not know where to turn for help or what support was available to them. This included limited awareness of Victim Friendly Rooms at South African police stations, victims’ rights, shelters, helplines and laws intended to protect survivors. These gaps showed us the need for clear, practical information that people can use when they need it most.
