Urgent Student Housing Crisis

My name is Ndumiso, a Bachelor of Education student at Sol Plaatje University.

My Story

In my first year, I gave everything to my studies, and it showed. I passed all my modules with a 70% average and 4 distinctions. I am committed to becoming a teacher and contributing meaningfully to education in South Africa.

What I’m Facing Now

Despite my academic performance, I am unfunded this year. I have been doing what I can to survive, volunteering and taking temporary jobs just to cover food, toiletries, and other basics.

Last month, I reached a breaking point. I had to pawn my laptop at Cash Crusaders, the very tool I need for my studies, just to pay rent.

I have tried to negotiate with my landlord, but I am now facing final eviction. I am exhausted, and the fear of being homeless is real.

Why This Matters

Without accommodation, I will not be able to continue my studies. Everything I have worked for is at risk of falling apart, not because of my effort, but because of financial hardship.
