Support Vilano's Recovery After Devastating Injury
Vilano is a 20-year-old second-year student at NWU Vanderbijlpark and a passionate rugby player who has dedicated most of his life to the sport. His talent and commitment have always stood out, both on and off the field.
Tragically, on Saturday, 3 May 2025, during a match at the NWU campus, Vilano suffered a catastrophic neck injury within the first 30 minutes of play. He was urgently taken to Midvaal Hospital where initial CT scans revealed the severity of his condition. Due to the urgent need for specialized care and the high cost of treatment at Midvaal, he was transferred to Sebokeng Hospital.
Vilano is currently in traction, awaiting evaluation by the head neurosurgeon. He is scheduled to undergo critical spinal surgery, after which he will require long-term rehabilitation.
Right now, Vilano has no sensation or movement below his neck—he is currently classified as a quadriplegic. Doctors cannot yet determine whether he will regain any feeling or mobility. His future is un...
