Vrygrond Peace Garden Expansion

Vrygrond Peace Garden is more than a green space, it is a vital sanctuary where the people of our community come to heal, create, and grow together. Over the past year, the garden has expanded from one location to three, driven entirely by the needs of the children, youth, carers, and elders who use it.

This garden offers something rare: a safe place available beyond the usual hours of support services. Trauma and hardship do not follow office hours, yet many vulnerable children and community members are left without refuge once schools and NGOs close. The Peace Garden is open when other doors are shut, providing calm, connection, and creativity after hours and on weekends.

We listen deeply to those we serve, and their voices guide every step we take. The garden is alive with hands-on learning in gardening, sustainability, and nutrition. It is a place where people are cared for and empowered. They are given space to express themselves, to be seen, and to build agency in their lives.
