Wessel’s Story – A Second Battle No One Expected
If you’ve ever spent time at the Centurion Rugby Club, chances are you know Oom Wes — the friendly face, loyal supporter, and man whose heart has touched so many lives over the years. Wessel Steyn is more than just part of the club — he is part of the family and spirit that makes the community so special.
In 2025, Wessel faced one of the toughest battles of his life when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Through immense courage, determination, and faith, he fought through the pain, endured treatment, and ultimately won that battle.
But heartbreak struck again.
On 19 May 2026, Wessel was devastatingly diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer. The cancer is aggressive and is causing severe pain and discomfort on a daily basis. Sadly, doctors have advised that radiotherapy is not a treatment option for him.
