Who We Are

Wits HPC is a student-run high-performance computing group at the University of the Witwatersrand. We bring students together around supercomputing, parallel programming, systems, and technical problem-solving, turning classroom knowledge into practical skill.

Through talks, workshops, training, and competition preparation, we help students grow in HPC while building a stronger student computing culture at Wits and beyond.

Over the past 10 years, we have claimed 7 first-place titles at the CHPC SCC and 4 first-place titles at the ISC SCC in Germany and in 2025 became the first standalone African university to compete at ASC.

What Is ASC26?

The ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge is one of the world’s most respected student supercomputing competitions. It brings together university teams from across the world to tackle demanding computing and AI challenges under strict resource constraints.
