Xairu Equine Ability Initiative - In Memory of Andrew Findlay Heughan

A horse cannot choose the hands it ends up in. But by educating those hands while they are still young, we can change the future for both the child and the horse.

The Xairu Equine Ability Initiative gives children from Suurbraak access to riding lessons and practical horsemanship education.

The initiative was established in honour of Andrew Findlay Heughan, following a donation made in his memory by his sister, Lauren Visagie of Suurbraak. 

Andrew found that animals offered something people sometimes struggle to give. Acceptance without pretence. Now his legacy will help local children discover that same connection.

Our lessons are provided by Annatjie Venter, an experienced horse trainer and riding instructor living with a disability. While her disability creates very real barriers to conventional employment, it does not diminish the wealth of knowledge and experience she has to offe...
