The Y-Zone Programme at Durban YMCA offers a safe space for primary school children, homework is supervised, children are assisted to improve in subjects where they are weak (in consultation with the teachers). The programme runs in schools, where the time is limited, and the activities are as described above. The programme also runs in community halls, where there is more time and therefore a greater opportunity for activities and play. One site that was recently started in Kwa Mashu has grown tremendously in numbers as the word spreads, and the Ward Councillor sends his kids to the programme.
