My name is Zukhanye Lamani, a finalist student of The University of Cape Town currently studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Media Studies.
I am a young woman from Khayelitsha in Cape Town. I entered the University of Cape Town for its prestige and for the promise of a future brighter than my background.
My decision to venture into Media Studies and Linguistics was fuelled by my passion for language and how it can be used to break barriers and propel transformation in young people. I am appealing to you to please assist me with my university fees because without them, I cannot graduate and I will not be able to participate in the job market rendering me as part of the unemployed youth.
My current fee balance at UCT is R239 432,11 incurring 1% interest every month. I have applied for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Schem) but I was rejected because of the R350k household income cap. I form part of the “missing middle” in South Africa with a household income of...
