2 Paralyzed Pugs Rescued in 1 Week

Personal message

Pug Rescue South Africa rescued Miss Piggy a beautiful seven year old black Pug who sadly became paralyzed due to a chronic spinal disc condition. By the time she was rescued by Pug Rescue her spinal issues were quite far advanced.

Pug Rescue SA took Miss Piggy for an MRI to see if there was anything they could do to help her as she was in severe pain and physically could not even stand. Specialist surgeon Dr Kitshoff examines her MRI and immediately undertook surgery with his amazing team of specialist anesthetists and theatre sisters on Monday even though it was a public holiday. Miss Piggy's spinal surgery went well and she is currently recovering in ICU.

As Miss Piggy was being wheeled out of surgery on 27 April we got a call about another paralyzed Pug who was found in a township. Our veterinary nurse immediately went to go and collect this Pug- now named Dawn. Dawn was transported to our vet for a full neurological examination. Dawn too cannot walk but this girl is in very poor shape in other aspects too. The scars, dirt and flea infestation on Dawn tell a story of just how hard her life has been. Dawn is estimated at six years of age and she can stand but has no use of her hind legs. Dawn went for her MRI on 29 April and has been heavily medicated to numb her pain related to her spinal condition and treated for her other ailments. Dawn has now  been admitted to hospital for two reasons. She has an underlying endocrine disease which is making her really sick. She is having a full medical work up. Once the specialists have that under control she will be undergoing spinal surgery to help her walk again. Dawn has hope to walk and play like a healthy happy Pug again through surgery.

Please assist Pug Rescue South Africa in helping these two precious Pugs regain their mobility, they both have so much love and zest for life and really deserve this chance.
