Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for a "Dumisani Ndaba HPW Award"

Personal message

Over the Christmas holidays, a good friend of mine, Dumisani Ndaba, passed away tragically in a motorbike accident. The sad news of his passing has motivated me to do something to raise money for charity. I decided on raising money for a programme he volunteered for and cared deeply about: The Habitable Planet Programme. Habitable Planet is a programme that helps inspire more black South Africans to persue careers in science, particularly those from disadvantaged. Dumisani had both been through the programme and trained as a facilitator for it, running a HPW schools programme in the Gauteng region. You can find more about it here:

Although the programme does great work and offers places at workshops for free (kindly sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology), it is oversubscribed by a factor of 4 applicants for each place. On back-a-buddy I’m hoping to raise money for a bursary to support student to attend Habitable Planet activities which will be named in Dumisani's honor.

To do so my family and I will attempt the Three Peak's challenge: climbing Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lion's Head in one day. We are asking for sponsorship to initiate this award and will therefore upload pictures as we attempt the challenge.

Date: Friday 6th January.
