What we do:
We began operating in 2006 with the vision of creating opportunities that empower rural communities located in vulnerable wildlife areas in Zimbabwe, Botswana & Zambia. The Foundation’s mission is to partner with these communities to improve their quality of life and achieve long-term conservation through programs focusing on education, conservation, community infrastructure and community empowerment.
The re-opening of Bumi Hills Safari Lodge in December 2017, within the African Bush Camps portfolio, has meant that relationships within the Mola District, near Lake Kariba, in Zimbabwe have begun to be formed, and some time spent truly understanding the challenges and talents of the local community. Through these conversations, we have agreed to partner with communities to bring education facilities to a comfortable level, conducive to a learning environment. Two schools; Mayovhe Secondary School and Mangwara Primary School have been identified as key areas to work on upgrading. We are, therefore, launching this fundraising campaign for Mangwara Primary School.
Targets for 67give:
US$24,700 (R331 874) = Construction of the 2-classroom block.
No classroom blocks have been built since the school opened in 2012. The school needs four school blocks to cater for ECD (Early Childhood Development) A-Grade 1. They are currently using grass thatched sheds as classroom blocks. The school has building materials on the ground; roofing sheets, trusses ridges, dump coarse, brick force, window frames, doors frames, doors, locks & nails. The material is adequate for two classroom blocks with closets.
US$5,280 (R70 943) = Purchase of Classroom furniture for pupils.
The school has sixty 3 seater desks which accommodate only 180 pupils, the other 154 sit on the ground and write on floor surfaces or flat stones. There is need for more furniture. There is no furniture for the teachers. The school needs about 8 chairs and 8 tables for the teachers.
US$4,800 (R64 494) = Purchase of School Textbooks for 334 students.
The ratio of pupils to textbooks is 1:10, which hinders the pass rate. There is a need to purchase textbooks for the whole school, which are aligned with the recently updated curriculum in Zimbabwe.
Total estimated costs for upgrading Mangwara Primary School =US$35 320 (R467 311)
