A hospital for Africa

A hospital for Africa

Personal message

I first met Dr Alain Mwasini Mumpalwa in Cape Town in 2012. He is a medically qualified and registered doctor from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has been working in government hospitals there but has a dream to start his own private hospital with other young doctors.

So far he has raised R1 million but needs a further R500,000 to complete the work. He has equipment and a building. The hospital will have 120 beds, 9 doctors, 25 nurses and other staff. It will provide much needed high quality medical care for patients from Kinshasa, DRC and other African countries. It will specialise initially in gynaecology, paediatrics and some emergency care.

The hospital will be in Kinshasa - the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo - where Dr Alain lives and works.

It will be registered with the Department of Health and associated with the General Hospital in Kinshasa and the International Hospital of Monkole.
