Alternatives to Violence Project Eastern Cape

Personal message

Please help us to send the Port Elizabeth team (see photo) to a conference of the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) in Cape town in September 2019 to learn more about managing conflict, especially in gang-controlled areas.

AVP workshops change mindsets dramatically.  Participants, especially those from violent communities, frequently talk of never realizing that alternatives to violence exist.

Conducted in the USA since 1975, the first AVP workshops in Southern Africa started in 1995 and currently there are active groups in Gauteng, Eastern and Western Cape as well as KwaZulu Natal, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Each group has its own structure and organizes its own funding.

In Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape we have 10 active AVP facilitators working part-time in schools and communities.

Please help us sharpen our skills and grow our network!

For more information, see  and click on AVP around the world to see the countries where AVP is active.  The video on this site ( shows an AVP workshop in a Canadian prison (a South African video is coming soon!)
