Angie van Greuning's DO WHAT MATTERS Recovery Fund

Personal message

The Lord has placed on my heart that I should start this fundraising cause for Angie, so that she can get the necessary funds to pay off her expenses, live day-to-day while out of action after her operation, and pay for the medicine and co-payments to the operation she is having on the 5th of September 2018. Please pray with us that this operation will be a complete success, and that she will stand up in Victory with the Lord’s help!

Angie is such an encouragement and example of having joy in the Lord, in spite of any hardships and health complications she is going through! Her story is a long one, 21 years of perseverance, which you can read more of here:

Her health challenges started in 1997 with brain tumour surgery gone wrong, to around 13 more procedures to try to clear the MRSA Superbug that she contracted while in theatre. These left her worse off, with pain 24/7 from pressure on her brain, resulting in her real estate business (Oneway Estates) closing, and lost most of her earning ability as she was bedridden due to the relentless pain. To this day the pain persists, leaving her flat in bed for days and weeks at a time.

There were many more trials and health challenges that have continued to this day, creating huge debts and losing everything including their home in 2003. Her mom became bedridden a few years back and they had to provide in-house care resulting in more debt. Just 2 days before Angie’s 50th birthday her mom unexpectedly passed away in her sleep, which devastated her and the whole family!

Over 6 years ago they found that she has a degenerative disease in her spine, causing the vertebrae to be very soft and porous. She had 3 crumbled vertebrae in her lower back where they did a fusion, taking bone from her hip and fusing it with pins, screws and plates (internal prosthesis). Just over 2 years ago, she had two trapped nerves due to the same condition and a neurosurgeon had to cut through her throat area to free the nerves and fuse the two bones with pins.

In Angie’s words: "I want to say, we have seen God do the MOST amazing miracles in all these years! And precious angels have helped us along the way.... So we are not without hope ever...!! As long as we have breath, there is hope.... and I am grateful for that breath..."

Fast forward to today, and the reason for this fundraising project. Since October last year her lower back has been excruciatingly painful, also down the side of her leg. She landed up in hospital and they found that besides both her knees needing to be replaced, that on the bottom and top of the previous fusion the bone has crumbled and calcified into a rhino horn shaped point, and this is causing the excruciating pain and hitting nerves, referring pain down into her left leg.

Those who know her can testify that it's kept her in bed for the best part of 8 months because she can't sit, stand or walk for long with the excruciating pain. In spite of that pain she has continued to minister and sing at some events, with the Lords help, and being such a blessing to everyone she comes in contact with. I have not encountered anyone else with such a positive, joyful outlook on life, in spite of what she is going through, continuing to use her trials as a testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness.

The doctors have tried 2 procedures this year that gave no relief. Each time there were R4000 co-payments, medication, scans with co-payments and other expenses, and loss of income as a result. Sadly, because both procedures failed they must now do the huge back operation, that they were trying to avoid, on 5 September (again with a R4000 co-payment and medication etc).

They already have a chemist account which is over R18 000 that has been frozen, so she can only get her meds 3 - 5 days at a time when she sells CD's or if she or her husband gets any extra money in. She sings and ministers at many functions for NPO's, churches etc. and doesn't charge for it (some give a love gift) because she wants to use her life to "do what matters" and never lets money stop her from finding purpose in her pain, by using it to give others hope and encouragement. Here is a song she wrote the words of and sang based on her life called "Do What Matters" which she wanted to leave behind as a legacy (video at the top of this post)

This is why I am starting this fundraising cause, so that we can help her to raise enough funds to pay for her immediate needs, debts, and co-payments and not have to worry about the bills that are piling up while she recovers. If we can also get enough together to pay for monthly expenses for 6 months that will be great! If you are able to help once off or monthly, this will be such a blessing to her. If you feel led to contribute past the 6 month period, it will be greatly appreciated too.

If you want to donate you can do so on this page, or help us pray for complete healing. You can contact her directly if you want to buy her CD, or can help monthly or encourage her in any other way. I can assure you that you will be the blessed one by contacting her. I want to end off with Angie’s motto: “By lifting others up, we rise!” Something she lives by, and I for one want to do the same for her.
