Anika's Archery Campaign

Personal message

Anika Herselman was in a very serious car accident on 26 April 2003. Since the accident Anika is a hemiplegic with brain damage and she can only use her left arm.

Anika has struggled to find a sport or activity that gives her a chance to "belong" and be part of something that makes her feel worthy. In 2016 we met up with Luther de Koker and Daniel Thomas from Bowtime in Brackenfell who made it there mission to ensure that Anika is able to shoot her bow and to start a journey that her mom and dad could only dream about.

Luther and Daniel taught her to start shooting with her mouth. 6 Months later the Paralympic Archer, Shaun Anderson has now joined the dream to develop Anika for her dream to go to the Paralympic Games. With the help of Luther, Daniel, Tanya, Sharon and Shaun and so many other wonderful people at Bowtime, the dream is becoming more and more a reality and Anika is even competing with abled bodied children.

Anika can now compete in her sport and have finally found her place to excel and be proud of herself.

We have now reached a point where we urgently need sponsors for equipment. Anika needs a custom designed brace with a trigger that she can set off with her mouth. This will enable her to draw with the brace and then to able to reach the required distance.
