Food for Families

My name is Anne-Lize de Beer. I am the owner of Col'Cacchio Stellenbosch. As most of you know, we had to close the restaurant from the 26th of March as part of the National lockdown.

I employ 34 people fulltime and some casuals. Most of them are single mothers. A number of families rely on our business for their livelihood. Since we are closed and not generating any income, I won't be able to pay salaries. I have applied for UIF and other funding but the process has been cumbersome and I am not sure when funding will come through.

In the interim, my staff is really struggling to care for their families. I provide them with a meal at work but at the moment they are all at home and have to provide food for themselves and their families.

One of my staff, Nikki, sent me a message to ask for help to get access to food parcels in Kayamandi. They don't have access to the relevant NGO's and also don't know how to get access to food parcels. It broke my heart to listen to her request. She is not asking for money, just food for her children. I know the lockdown is difficult and challenging for everyone, but it must be far worse for them.

I would like to provide my staff who are struggling at this stage, with food parcels until we obtain funding/assistance to pay them salaries. I have requested a list of critical items from them so that we obtain funding to sponsor food parcels to 37 staff members that should hopefully last them for 2 weeks. If there are sufficient funds sourced, I can supply them with food vouchers for another 2 weeks.

Reaching my target will allow me to support my staff with food during the lockdown period.

The food parcel content is included in the video. We decided for logistaical and safety reasons to opt for a food voucher option to enable each family to collect the basic food items they need.
