Australian Shepherd SA Rescue Organisation Farm of Freedom

Personal message

We at ASSARO believe in a home away from home environment for our rescues, providing a quality of life for all our short and long term rescues.

In order for us to achieve this, ASSARO needs their own farm now.

The reasons we believe it is essential for ASSARO to have their own farm is the following:

1.  Aussies needs space to run freely and do not do well in confined spaces like traditional kennels as they are a working breed who need to run off lead.  The more difficult aussies and our long termers also need to be able to run in a secure environment where they will not come across other dogs, animals etc.

2.  Aussies are barkers and need to be in an environment where there are no barking restrictions e.g. no close neighbours etc.  At our own farm we would be able to set up the runs to minimise this behavior, including fence fighting, and be able to control the environment, movement of people and any other barking stimulous so that it can be kept to a minimum and so that the rescues can rest in their runs.

The reason that this is important is because in places where we have rented, the outside stimulous has been beyond our control and this leads to constant arousal in the rescues and noise levels have always been one of the complaints.

3.  We would require a farm with dams for the water babies as aussies love to swim.

4.  ASSARO would like to build a unique private kennelling facility as a home away from home for clients own dogs.  This facility would be away from the rescues and it would be utilised to raise funds for ASSARO.

This is also one of the reasons ASSARO needs a big farm, so that it can accomodate for future plans aswell.

5.  ASSARO has found renting to be expensive and stressful in having to relocate, rebuild runs and wendy houses etc which is always temporarily set up due to it not being our own farm.

6.  ASSARO wants to be able to have a special needs facility for their blind, deaf and old rescues.

7.  ASSARO wants a puppy facility.

8.  ASSARO needs a quaratine facility for all the new intakes.

Please join us in making ASSARO's dreams come true.  We look forward to your partnership in this endeavor.

ASSARO is a pro quality life Australian Shepherd Dog Rescue Organisation whose home base is in Gauteng but works across South Africa.

When Ingrid Liberte fostered a deaf Australian Shepherd called Josh, she had a feeling that as time went on more Aussies were going to need new homes.  That is when, in January 2012, Australian Shepherd SA Rescue Organisation NPC (ASSARO NPC) was started for these rescues, which was subsequently registered in May 2012.

ASSARO NPC is a section 21 Non Profit Company that rescues and rehabilitates the Australian Shepherd Dog.
