BETHLEHEM PRIVATE MUSIC SCHOOL

School Motto

Music – our passion. Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. Music improves academic skills, develops physical skills, cultivates social skills, refines discipline and patience, boosts self-esteem and introduces children to other cultures.

Music is God’s gift to man, the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven.

GOAL

To offer music education in various instruments to talented children identified in the underprivileged areas whose parents cannot afford extra mural activities like music education. To offer them opportunities like participation in Unisa’s music examinations, local concerts and Eisteddfods.

To use crowdfunding to appoint qualified and experienced music teachers, to buy music study material, to buy two upright pianos and in the near future other instruments like recorders, guitars, keyboards and violins. Funds will also be used to offer the students a light meal, to support them with money for transport and to pay rent for the facilities.

AIM

The aim is 15 students per tutor per term. The school is in the need funds for the following:

1.    Salary of the music tutor/principal R25 000 a term (R100 000 for four terms) for 10 students. Music fee per term (one hour lessons a week which also include music theory) at R1 500 per student. The disadvantaged, underprivileged students in the townships will only have to pay an annual registration fee (R350 in 2019).

2.    To buy two second hand or new upright pianos for two rooms in the church hall. Plus minus R35 000. This will provide facilities for the children to practice and the rooms can also serve as music rooms/studios.

3.    To pay rent for the facilities of the St Augustines Anglican Church in Bethlehem: R3 000 a month (R36 000 a year).

4.    To buy music books and study material for the school’s music library for the use of the students. R10 000 in 2019.

5.    To support the students with their transport (taxi) and a light meal or snack. R3 000 per term (R12 000 a year).

6.    Equipment and office furniture: computer, internet server, printer, printing paper and ink, a music chalkboard, etcetera. Estimated: R15 000.

7.    Diverse costs: Entry fees – Unisa examinations, Eisteddfods. R2 000 in 2019, print work (programs for music concerts, etcetera), advertising, and others. R7 500 in 2019.

Total amount needed in 2019: R223 000.
