I Bianca Lues was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2003 in my matric end exam. I have been on insulin since then.
In 2013 I was put on a Medtronic insulin pump as my body was starting to develop lumps wherever I injected and the insulin didn't stay inside my body as soon as I took the needle out the insulin came back out as well.
In October 2020 I went to see an endocrinologist because my sugar was playing around and I felt the negative change and effects it had on me every day, and they found that I have a lot of nerve and organ damage because of the insulin pump that I was on didn't work for me anymore. They needed to put me on a new insulin pump that will make it much easier to control my insulin levels as I get hypoglycemias and don't feel the symptoms anymore because of the damage.
I am living in fear that I just will not be waking up the next day due to a coma and I am a single mother living alone as my son is a boarder at a school in Durban due to a rugby career he is following. I am on a medical aid but my medical aid doesn't cover the full amount of what is needed for the pump to be supplied to me.
I am in real need of help to live a better and healthier life to be there for my son every step of the way.
