Bin Cleaning Project

Personal message

Buhle Sithela is the founder of Bin Cleaning Project. He offers a weekly bin cleaning service in Harare, Khayelitsha. Every week, Bin Cleaning Project cleans close to 30 bins in their area for a R50 monthly fee. Buhle uses part of the money he makes from his bin-cleaning project to fund is passion - film. He is trying to change the fact that there is no cinema in Khayelitsha by screening movies. He has hosted a few movie screenings to date, but is looking to expand. Buhle is currently completing an internship with mobile, solar-powered cinema Sunshine Cinema to research ways of expanding his screenings.  “I just hope it grows big enough to sustain my passion for cinema. I have this dream of hosting a huge open air screening at Lookout Hill in Khayelitsha. Slowly but surely, I’m getting there.”

Phaphama is a UCT student run organization that was founded in 2014.  Phaphama offers weekly consulting sessions for business owners in Khayelitsha. Each business owner is given a team of 4 senior UCT student consultants for 8 months.  We offer consulting sessions where business owners and students have a collaborative space to solve the problems of the business.  Student consultants also analyze the finances of the businesses  to see where revenue can be increased and costs cut. We also offer  a curriculum which is used to supplement the consulting sessions if necessary. Lessons on finance, marketing, business models, and much more are available to our entrepreneurs.
