Hi, My name is Amanda Cromhout.
I had to miss my 7th consecutive Comrades ultra-marathon due to blindness in my right eye.
I will run Comrades (90km) in June 2023 and probably 3 or 4 marathons to get there, plus a few ultras - with one functioning eye only. This blindness was caused by fusarium keratitis, which before March 2022 was an unknown entity to me.
Fusarium keratitis has left me blind after 3 months of intense & terrifying pain (and hopefully, it may get resolved with further surgery in 2023). I would never want anyone to endure such suffering without at least the financial aid to pay for the best care & eye surgery.
I am raising funds to assist disadvantaged individuals who may suffer from critical eye infections to be supported through such a distressing illness.
The Blind Loyalty Trust was founded by myself and supported by the incredibly talented & devoted surgeon who is fighting for my sight with me; he is a trustee of the Trust and will allocate funds raised by the Blind Loyalty Trust to ensure we can reduce the pain & anxiety of others who may wake up one random day to find they are in intense pain, which changes their lives forever.
It does not stop one's life......I can still run, and I can still raise funds to help others, and this is where I need YOUR support.
I qualified for Comrades at the Red Hill marathon in January 2023 / Cango Marathon in February 2023 and now the serious training kicks in! Please donate generously to help the Blind Loyalty Trust help others who desperately could not survive this illness otherwise. Sight is a gift that we must never take for granted.
