Border2beach Psycle Tour

Personal message

Brothers, Lyle and Struan Anderson lost their father Jonathan Anderson to dementia last year. Together with Gareth Myles and Simon Clayton they are cycling 2200km across South Africa to raise much-needed awareness for dementia. Jonathan did this same ride when he was only 17 years old, so they felt it would be an incredible way to pay tribute to their Dad and do some real good for so many other families.

They’ve learnt that if someone is affected by dementia in a small community they are often ostracized or beaten as they are believed to have an evil spirit, so having helpers in these communities will stop these awful things from happening. Together with Publicis Groupe Africa, we hope to reduce the stigma around mental health issues, and get people understanding and talking about early detection signs so that people are better prepared should a loved one ever be affected by this cruel disease.

We are raising funds to train caregivers and nurses to assist and educate people about dementia in small communities. Publicis Groupe Africa has committed to creating a marketing campaign to teach people about dementia and how to spot early signs which will hopefully lead to early detection allowing more time to prepare.

Thanks to the amazing people at Livewell Villages who have donated the full funds to pay for the ride, it is because of them, all this will be possible!

So all money raised will go towards training caregivers and nurses, it costs R2500 per helper, so we can make a real difference. As well as a small amount will go towards a social media campaign to educate about dementia.

The psycle tour is on the 25th of August 2019 so we hope to raise the funds before that.

*Funds raised will be transferred directly to the campaign creator's NGC partners, Alzheimer's SA who will begin training of as many caregivers and nurses as possible.*
