Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa Re-opening

Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa Re-opening

Personal message

Like many NGO's around the world the Boys & Girls Cliubs of South Africa were hit hard by COVID 19 and the lockdown. Our 7 Clubs had to close in order to stop the spread and it wasn't until July that we could slowly begin to welcome our almost 2,000 Club Members Back.

During lockdown we tried our best to help families, our main approach was serving meals to hungry kids in order to aleviate their suffering. From Monday to Friday every week kids would queue outside our gates to get what may have been their only hot meal of the day.

Thankfully South Africa is managing the virus well and we are now able to fully open 6 of our 7 Clubs, and to start delivering programs to our almost 2,000 Club Members. Covid has hit us hard on the fundraising side, and we desperately need your support to continue our sports, arts and academic programs - and of course the hot and healthy meals remain in place.

Your campaign and donations will help us buy supplies, pay our faciliators and coaches, and ensure we are able to delivering high quality programs to South Africa kids to help them achieve the birght future they deserve.

Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa operates facility-based after-school programs for school-aged young people. The Club offers a variety of activities in 5 different program areas designed to meet the interests and needs of members.

A Boys & Girls Club is more than just a place for kids to play and learn. It’s a safe haven that provides activities and experiences that enrich the lives of young people creating opportunities and expectations that teach valuable life skills to rely on throughout life.

The Club involves young boys and girls in programs and activities that build self-esteem and self-worth. They learn the values of responsibility and respect in a supportive environment free of pressure and stress. Clubs empower children to make wise and educated life choices. In this age of teen alcohol use, drugs, and violence, we work to help create model citizens and productive members of society.

BGCSA has three priority outcome areas for impact:

  • Academic Success
  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Good Character & Citizenship

BGCSA has a variety of programs such as Power Hour (homework help), Smart Girls and Passport to Manhood, which is focused on life skills, and BGCSA Champion, which focuses on good character and behavior within our Club Members.
