Update 11 November 2022:
Although I originally intended to walk 100km in six months, I have reached the 100km target in 4 months. As of now, I am still in need of your help to hit the finical target. To fund 6 wheelchairs for children in need to date, I have walked over 100km. I will do my absolute best to continue walking until we hit the target needed.
One of my biggest goals going into this was wanting to show that no matter what others' opinions are, it's your determination, drive and willpower that really matter in the end.
This journey has taught me to have a different respect for my body and health, as well as my mindset. It has given me a new view and perspective of what your inner abilities really are and a new level of not only determination but dedication.
The most and foremost special thank you to my creator of heaven and earth. Thank you for using me as one of your messengers to show that no matter what happens in life, anything is possible.
Thank you to everyone who liked, shared, featured the purpose walk, and interviewed me for their publication. And a very special thank you to my family and friends for pushing me when I felt I had very little left for the continuous encouragement and for celebrating the small milestones with me that were huge achievements in small ways. I'm forever grateful.
This journey of the purpose walk is not yet over, and I still need your help to hit my target. Please join me this festive season to help me get to the last stretch of the target in order to gift wheelchairs to children.
Thank you so much!
Kind regards,
Brittany

Update: 05/08/2022
Although I originally intended to walk 100km in six months, 3 months have passed and I am currently at 90km since I began this incredible journey. As of now, I have 10 kilometres to walk and a few more thousand dollars to raise.
One of my biggest goals going into this was wanting to show that no matter what others' opinions are it's your determination, drive and willpower that really matter in the end.
This journey has taught me to have a different respect for my body and health as well as my mindset. It has given me a new view and perspective of what your inner abilities really are and a new level of not only determination but dedication.

My name is Brittany McCormick.
I was born with Cerebral Palsy Quadriplegia of high muscle tone. I was born 25 weeks premature and just after birth, I was placed in the intensive care unit for three months.
I had been given many blood transfusions, and I had every pipe and tube attached to me. Doctors were unsure whether or not I would make it to the age of 18. A few months passed after my birth before my family had seen that something was not normal.
After taking me to countless doctor’s appointments, I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, also known as CP. My disability diagnosis meant many doctors’ appointments to follow to see how and what could be done to ensure I could be as independent as possible.
Doctors told my parents that I would never walk and be bound to a wheelchair. Regardless of what was said, I managed to learn to crawl. I still crawl to this current day at the age of 25.
As a child, I had many physiotherapy appointments to improve my mobility; during one of my appointments with the physiotherapist in 2020, just before the lockdown took place, they managed to get me on the treadmill and teach me to walk without assistance.
I had come so far with learning to walk that I didn’t want to backtrack, so my family and I kept it going throughout the lockdown.
During this time, I felt I needed a challenge, so I took part in the virtual races of the justice league and completed the entire series. Fast forward a year and a bit, I’m still learning to walk unassisted.
Near the end of 2021, the pipes beneath my wheelchair had cracked. We had sent it in for a service, and I had to be without it for ten days.
During that process, I was humbled to understand and truly see what it’s like for other people with disabilities who don’t have the means to fix or replace or can’t afford a wheelchair.
This struck a string within my heart. Why not use the very thing I am still learning to do and that some people with no disabilities at times may take for granted to make an impact, make a difference, and make a dream come true.
The goal for the walk fundraiser through the help of BackaBuddy is to raise funds for the school of disabilities in need of wheelchairs and other necessities and make an impact in others’ lives.
To show that the impossible can be possible regardless of what you are faced with, to know that the little steps create the most significant milestones.
With the assistance of BackaBuddy, I aim to be walking 100kms in 6 months or more to raise R70-80 thousand for the Paarl School in Cape Town.
