Caylen Is a loving kind hearted 12 Year old loves his sport and playing rugby is his all, Caylen’s dream is to play for the Springboks and Cheetahs team.

Caylen had knee pain for about 2 weeks which we thought was because of a sport injury. The radiologist confirmed it seems like there is a tumour in Caylen’s left femur behind the knee.

We were advised to go back to the GP, 3rd August 2023. The GP had a look at the result from the x-rays, we should expect a call from the Orthopaedic within an hour. We should bring Caylen to the emergency unit immediately. We took Caylen to the emergency unit, and Caylen was admitted, in the room the Orthopaedic informed us that it looks like Caylen has Ewing Sarcoma, but cannot be confirmed we first need to do a Biopsy. Caylen was taken to do CT Scans, and MRI’s,

The scans showed tumours in the left femur as confirmed previously as well as a spot in the left hip joint and left lung. We were shocked, confused, our world was turned upside down, we did not expect this at all, the news just got heavier and heavier.

The next morning the biopsy was done on the left knee in the femur, after the Biopsy Caylen could not walk on his leg and needed to use Crutches. This all happened so fast, our minds are boggled, Caylen seems so confused. The results is back and the results confirmed Caylen has Osteo Sarcoma Cancer STAGE 4.

An Appointment immediately was booked for Caylen the following day 8 August with a Oncology Professor, at Universitas Netcare Hospital at 14:00. We did the meeting with the Professor who explained the treatment process which Caylen will be doing, starting immediately 10 August at 10:00.

Caylen cried and said, “Mom, please I will do all they asked and that is needed in this process, but please please, do not let them amputate my leg”. Now Caylen is a Gr 7 Learner at Jim Fouche Primary, and he is looking forward to play his first rugby game in Torques shoes, which they only start playing in Gr 8 in High School, Caylen’s Brother Ethan is 15 years old, also a great rugby player with a lot of talent, and Caylen is looking forward to play rugby in high school Jim Fouche knowing his brother is there and they will be doing rugby tours together and play weekends rugby matches, making us proud.

So the news that amputation is an option, absolutely broke Caylen.  The treatment plan was explained, Caylen will be doing 2 cycles of chemo treatment, one cycle has 5 weeks, which means 10 weeks in total, 1 week in hospital with chemo, 2 weeks at home, and then again 2 weeks in hospital, starting immediately with the second cycle, which means 3 weeks now in hospital with chemo. Then 2 weeks at home, 2 weeks again in hospital with chemo and the lastly we will be doing CT scans and MRI’s again praying that the results will reflect the cancer is gone, this is what we pray for, and then if not we need to discuss surgery.

The chemo is making Caylen so sick, nausea, vomiting, migraines, losing weight, this all is so heavy on him, let alone we still have not made peace with the fact that we are in this situation, still we don’t know how we/Caylen ended up here.

With this being said, we as a family, would really appreciate your help and support by praying together for Caylen, praying for healing in Jesus name. We would appreciate any funding we can get to help us with this process, Cancer is not something you save for or budget for, if you find it in your heart, please donate any amount and please know, out of the bottom of our hearts we really do appreciate all the prayers, support and donations, helping us through this difficult storm in our lives.
