Personal message

My name is Charleen Oosthuyzen. I am 30 years of age, I currently reside in Merrivale, Howick. I live there with my husband Rodney and our 6-year-old daughter.

At the age of 16, I was involved in a MVA. I was in the passenger seat of the vehicle when the vehicle lost control and rolled into an embankment, I was ejected out of the vehicle and landed on a nearby tree, I was rushed to hospital by an ambulance where I had sustained several injuries. I had a fractured left femur and a broken left humerus as well as abrasions to my left shoulder and multiple bruises to both my hands and torso, I also had swelling on the brain, I was in ICU from the 6th of December to the 28 of December and was afterward placed in a ward till I was discharged at the end of Feb. During my stay at the hospital I had undergone 6 operations including MRIs and CT scans. I was then sent home only to be readmitted in March due to my right hip dislocating, I had to go for another operation where they had put in plates to fuse the hip, a week after I had an infection so had to go back into theatre where they had then put in Vanco beads. I have tried to have my hip replacement done at the state hospital (Greys) however they will only do it once I turn 60.

I am currently working, however my husband has been retrenched, he does go out looking for work but has had no luck finding a stable job, We also have a 6-year-old daughter who is about to start Grade 1 next year. I have tried at Greys hospital for a hip replacement but they will only do it once I turn 60. I am currently the sole breadwinner at home and therefore cannot afford medical aid. My daughter is only 6 years of age and needs a mother who is able to interact with her, it has also affected the quality of my life as I am always in pain and will always have to rely on someone to help me, It does affect my current job as well as any future opportunities.

I am 30 years old and would like to have a better life whilst I am still young and would be able to enjoy my daughter's childhood. It would be highly appreciated if you would be able to assist as soon as possible
The funds will be used towards me finding a doctor who would be able to perform the operation and also for any other medical expenses that could occur due to me having this op.

I have approached doctors for assistance and they have explained that I will have to go in for a consultation for them to see how long it would take in theatre and also for the stay in a hospital as well as any physio that I would need after, I do mind having the procedure done at a state hospital but I have tried at Greys hospital before and was rejected.

Any help would assist in me having a better quality life and would make me more mobile, I would then also be able to play a better part in my daughters life and hopefully further my career, any donation towards my op will also help me to stop relying on pain medication as I am often in pain. Having this op done will give me a better and brighter future with my family
The funds can be paid to a hospital or doctor that will be able to proceed with the hip replacement for any of the medical costs that will arise.

*BackaBuddy will administer funds directly to the relevant medical practitioners*
