2022 Community development Project

Personal message

We are a community-based organization working to support our community in Masiphumelele, Cape Town. Our organization was formed in November 2019 and registered officially as an NPC in March 2020(NPC NO:2020590622 8).

Our main focus was supporting women in abusive relationships with no income and offering safe spaces to be heard.

However, last year covid 19 happened and unveiled the challenges that our communities face every day without solutions. We then added a new focus that provides home-cooked meals for our community members every day. We started with one meal a day for only two days per week.

To date, we have managed to provide breakfast, lunch and supper for our community members in Kolobe Road Masiphumelele. We have also come up with community support and development programmes that have positively impacted our community.

We have been working very hard to support our community with no remuneration since we started. Individual donors and Organisations have mostly supported our work.

1. Feeding programme:
Due to the covid 19 pandemic, our community was hard hit with unemployment, poverty and hunger. We started the feeding programme a few days after covid came into our country last year. We are currently feeding 150 to 200 adults and children in our community.

We serve breakfast, lunch and supper five days a week(Mondays to Fridays) depending on the availability of donations. We are also registered as a kitchen with the City of Cape Town.

There is still a huge need in our community as the unemployment rate is escalating daily. We had feedback on the community kitchen and would like to improve the quality of food for our community.

2. GBV awareness and support:
We have a GBV awareness programme for abused women in our community. Due to unemployment and poverty, the abuse rate has increased due to frustration and low self-esteem due to men failing to provide for their families.

These women need engagement and support besides providing hot meals for them. We have workshops and women circles where we give safe spaces for women to talk and support each other.

The GBV awareness programme entails GBV awareness, Trauma and healing support, safety tips for women and Domestic violence Act awareness. We have been conducting these workshops, and there is still a need for more workshops in our community.

3. Women Empowerment:
We have empowerment workshops for women esp the unemployed in our community. It is a platform where business ideas are shared, and practical cooperatives and partnerships are created. Currently, we are mobilizing resources for our garden and chicken project for women in our community.

We also have a cleaning company that employs our unemployed women. We plan to open up sewing, cooking and baking classes to empower our women.

4. Pads drive:
We have a pads drive for 40 teenage girls in our community. We also support them with life skills workshops and GBV awareness. The girl child has been vulnerable, and our focus is to empower and equip our community girl children so that they can be aware of the high rate of femicide in our nation.

To create an awareness of how they can have a bright future besides all the challenges our community faces every day.

5. Donation distribution:
Our kitchen beneficiaries struggle with shoes, clothing, and blankets, so we supply them with donations from new or second-hand clothes wellwishers.

6. Practical women empowerment:
We have various projects that we have started to practically empower women in our community that require much support and funding. These include sewing, farming, cleaning services, catering, buying and selling businesses.

1. Feeding programme:
Gas refills, electricity and adequate resources to meet our target goal of three meals per day. We have organisations and individuals who support us, but there is no consistency, so we find it difficult to meet our objectives.

We need bigger pots and kitchen utensils as we have been using the home utensils at our soup kitchen. There is a need for adequate resources for cleaning the kitchen and full operation.
This year has been challenging as we have struggled to keep the kitchen open.

Donor fatigue has hit very hard, and we are reaching out to you for any form of support, so we continue to do the fantastic work we have been doing.

2. Other projects: Shortage of funds and resources
Our major limitation is finding enough funds to run our community projects effectively.

We can bring change in our vulnerable community, but this can only happen if we can support the financial support and resources needed. We have to conduct workshops, print fliers, invite facilitators, create initiatives for sustainability, so we need help. We also need to have office space for our organization for all admin and meetings.

  1. To improve the quality of food that we serve our community.
  2. To be able to provide sandwiches for school children in need.
  3. To be able to pay our dedicated volunteers a stipend every month as a way of motivating them.
  4. To be a safe space to open up for research on challenges affecting our community and being able to find solutions.
  5. To grow our food and play a part in our sustainability for the food security
-To support at least five families that are struggling with food parcels as they need to eat supper from the kitchen.

Women s projects

  1. To be able to support abused women with safe spaces to be heard.
