THE PROBLEM STATEMENT AND ITS RIPPLE EFFECTS

Impact Of Emergencies Medical and Disaster Recovery and Fire Devastation On Communities

Medical emergencies, natural disasters and the high prevalence of fires in South Africa create devastating aftermaths from which historically disadvantaged and poorer communities take very long to recover. The negative ripple effects impact communities, employees living in high-risk areas and there is a financial costly burden to re-build displaced communities at the expense of tax-payers. Community Safety Champions is a donor-funded campaign solution designed to create an increasing pool of basic skilled first-aider, fire-fighter and other health and safety skills for volunteer workers who actively support communities in times of medical emergencies, fires and disasters. The campaign motivates for youth and women to join non-profit organisations to access funded health, safety and security training sponsored by companies’ CSI–spend and by individual donors, all of whom support uplifting communities via this basic health and safety integrative campaign. Benefits for companies include minimising eg costly downtime, revenue earning losses and losing paying customers to competitors. Benefits for NGO’s / NPO’s volunteer worker’ learners include inter alia: emergency medical care becomes more readily available to victims of gender based violence which are most often ‘not reported crimes’ but known to those close to the victims, bullying, sexual harassment, frail, sick, aged and disenfranchised people with disabilities (PWD) in communities; also bridging relevant skills gaps to decrease our spiralling unemployment rate (June 2022 : Youth @ 63,9% / National 34,5%) as learners can kick-start health, safety and security career paths and entrepreneur business models to benefit the entire community ecosystem.

A SUSTAINABLE, EVER-EXPANDING SOLUTION

Health And Safety 'Cradle To Grave Skills Development Solution For  Communities

  • Create and substantially increase pools of first-on-the-scene emergency responders in every community and the volunteer worker beneficiaries of skills are eligible based on being:
  • actively operating  members of actively operating NGO’s / NPO’s,
  • who ideally live in the disadvantaged communities;
Equip volunteer workers with ‘basic, accredited, first-responders firefighting, first aid medical emergency response and work-related skills’ that can contribute:
  • to save lives in times of emergencies and disasters in communities;
  • to enhance youth and unemployed career-seeker volunteers' job employability chances;
  • to promote and train self-employment entrepreneurship skills to boost the economy.
Equip volunteer workers with 'sustainable healthy living option skills to grow and produce products and services that will enhance their living conditions, mental and physiological health as individuals and as a community' All of which will - as research has shown - contribute to a psychological mind-set and transformation change to  a RE-IMAGINED COMMUNITY with less dependence on the state to 'save' our communities.

The founders, Lewellyn and Judah Scholtz, the directors and founders are action-oriented, active stalwarts within their community as leaders who make things happen inside and outside of the centre where they provide training opportunities and careers.  They are a classic case of 'supporting the upliftment of people in communities from the side’, as it were, and they are known for advancing ‘support network collaborations’ that must contribute to positive socio-economic change in the areas where they provide both skills for learners but also their personal time and support in times of emergencies.
