Covid-19 is here.
President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster and issued a lockdown until end of April. This measure, put in place to save lives, hits the poor and unemployed especially hard.

During this time our team in Samora Machel initiated a Community Action Network CAN group - a self-organised support system aimed at mitigating the impact of the crisis.

They set up hand washing facilities, run a soup kitchen, check in with vulnerable members of the community to ensure that they are fine, disseminate information.

We set up a special fund to assist the team in this effort and invite our friends and supporters to make a donation.

What the funds will buy: food items for the soup kitchen, airtime and data to stay connected, soap, sanitiser and cleaning products.

Il Covid-19 è arrivato.
Il presidente Cyril Ramaphosa ha dichiarato lo stato disastro nazionale e ha proclamato un periodo di quarantena fino alla fine di aprile. Questa misura, attivata per salvare vite, colpisce poveri e disoccupati in maniera particolarmente severa.

In questo periodo il nostro team a Samora Machel ha avviato un Community Action Network CAN – un sistema di supporto auto-organizzato che cerca di mitigare l’impatto della crisi nel loro quartiere.

Hanno predisposto stazioni per lavarsi le mani (molte persone non hanno acqua corrente), gestiscono una mensa solidale, sono in contatto con membri vulnerabili della comunità per assicurarsi che stiano bene, diffondono informazioni.

Abbiamo creato un fondo speciale per assistere il team in questo sforzo e invitiamo i nostri amici e sostenitori a fare una donazione.

Con questi fondi verranno acquistati: provviste per la mensa solidale, traffico di telefonia mobile e dati per rimanere connessi, sapone, gel igenizzante e prodotti di pulizia.

Friends of Thandolwethu Association

Friends of Thandolwethu Association Logo

The association "Friends of Thandolwethu" assists a group of community leaders from Samora Machel township, on the outskirts of Cape Town, in setting up and run the Thandolwethu Early Childhood Development Centre. Our goal is to raise funds to support training of the staff, build the centre, ensure quality educational activities, and promote and disseminate innovative educational practices inspired by the Reggio Emilia pedagogic approach.

L'associazione "Friends of Thandolwethu" aiuta un gruppo di leader di comunità dell'area di Samora Machel, alla periferia di Cape Town, nell'avviare e gestire il nido e scuola dell'infanzia Thandolwethu. Ci proponiamo di raccogliere i fondi per sostenere la formazione dello staff, la costruzione della scuola, garantire attività educative di qualità e promuovere e diffondere pratiche pedagogiche innovative ispirate al Reggio Emilia approach.
