Dakota Cockrell: Sponsorship: International ARTS Convention, New York 2020.

Personal message

My name is Dakota Lee Cockrell, from Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa.  I am a 12-year-old ballerina, with big dreams and a natural love of classical and contemporary ballet, music and all things ART!!. Although I am young, I know where I want to be oneday when I'm big and that is living my dream in the performing arts. When Im not at school, Im dancing or spending my time at E-Vocal Academy, learning about music.

In September 2019, I performed at the International ARTS Africa Talent Showcase (dancing, singing and acting), for an International panel of guests and judges, including Joey Hunter, Nate Butler (A&R of America’s Got Talent), Blaze Johnson (The Voice America, season 8), Joey Zangardi, (Associate Director of Acting and Musical Theater at the New York Film Academy) and Rhavynn Drummer, Independent Casting Director for Tyler Perry Studios.

Following the  International ARTS  Africa Talent Showcase, I was selected to represent South Africa at the IMTA, International ARTS Convention in New York City in July 2020. This International ARTS Convention offers aspiring artists  the opportunity to perform and compete,
as well as exposure to an international selection of agents, Casting Directors, Managers, Producers from Hollywood, Miami, New York, Atlanta as well as Europe and Asia.

I'm humbly asking each of you to please help me chase my dreams by considering donating towards my trip to the United States to enable me to showcase my talent.

Reaching the target will mean that I, a young ballerina from South Africa, will be afforded the opportunity travel to the United States of America to perform and compete at the IMTA, International ARTS Convention, giving me the opportunity to work towards my goals as an aspiring young artist.

Reaching this target also creates hope... for the many young children of South Africa...because despite South Africa being a third world country or the challenges we face, we have first world potential! and reaching this target thus means that raw South African Talent in the performing arts,is provided with the opportunity to gain international training and education. With the current and future return of aspiring artists to South Africa, the impact of this opportunity will also be seen in the growth and development of the local film and entertainment industry, fusing the very best in local storytelling with the latest and best techniques in film making from Hollywood.

For young aspiring performers like myself, reaching this target gives me the opportunity to return home and work towards booking in the domestic market, utilizing the unique learning experience, training and exposure I received while performing for the U. S market. Other Artists may return home to focus on training and building the next generation of artists, based on the skill set we have acquired abroad, while other artists will establish their own space on the international stage in the United States of America and proudly represent South Africa for a global audience to admire.

Part of the funding will be used for workshops of over 20 hours of instruction, onsite at the ARTS Convention, seminars, training and media portfolio in preparation for the International ARTS Convention. This will equip me with skills and experience that will make me more marketable in both the local and international entertainment industry. Below, is a breakdown of the package and what the funds will be used for:
