Dawn's Dancing Dream!

Dawn's Dancing Dream!

Personal message

Back in 2006 we employed Gogo (Dawn’s gran) whilst living in Durban.  We needed her to babysit our little boy one Saturday night and she said she was unable to as she had to look after Dawn who was only 11 months old at the time.  Automatically I said please bring her to our home, and to date Dawnie is still with us !!! She is now part of our family !!

When we still lived in Durban the playschool my son attended offered to school Dawn at no cost.  We then went onto primary school in the area which offered her a place and a low monthly fee which Gogo paid.

In 2015 we moved to JHB for business reasons and really struggled to get Dawn into a school.  Gogo wanted to come with us to JHB and Dawn stayed behind for the rest of the year to complete Grade 5 in Durban where my sister looked after her. In January 2016 we managed to get Dawn into a school in Bryanston after trying nearly 10 different schools, but weren’t as lucky as we were in previous school and full fees had to be paid.  Gogo really struggled with these payments, we helped as much as we could.

Then with high school on our next ‘problamatic list”, I drove around to many schools for assistance.  Dawn managed to get 3 bursaries at private schools we applied for but the shortfall was still too high.  We eventually got Dawn into a school in Fourways but the transport/uniform/stationery/tours/excursions all add up so quickly.

Dawn is a dedicated young lady who will study instead of play, she is super intelligent and dreams of being a doctor one day.

Though all this, Dawn has always been an achiever. Over the years she has found an escape of her harsh reality in dancing.

Dawn is a natural born performer and dancer. She has excelled in the dancing world that she decieded to inter SA champs where she excelled. For Dawn, dancing is not only a form of movement but a space to be creative, confident and commanding. Instead of sitting in her room sad and desperate about her circumstances, Dawn uses dance to express her gratitude, happiness and incredible talent which brings eternal light and harmony to her heart.

Dawns monthly dance expenses add up (on top of her normal monthly expenses) and we would hate for Dawn to give up dancing especially when she is at the prime of her dancing career.

Please help us to raise enough funds so that Dawn can continue to Dance through life’s journey.

My name is Jolene McGlashan and I am raising funds for Dawn Khawula to help her chase her dancing dreams!  Dawn is a very talented 14 year old girl who has a real passion for dance.  She is being raised by her grandmother and I want to help her Gogo pay for her dancing fees.
