Fat Harrys Staff Relief

Personal message

My name is Dayle and I work as the general manager at Fat Harrys Burger Bar in Kenilworth.  I have started this campaign in an attempt to bring relief to our staff during the lockdown and beyond.  Fat Harrys employs sixteen people who now find themselves with no income and in desperate need, as they struggle to feed themselves and their families.

The hospitality industry has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing and restrictions placed on the industry meant that the earning potential of our staff was greatly affected before the lockdown was implemented.  We went from 2 shifts a day with an average of six people working per shift, down to one shift with no more than four people working a day. Not to mention the resultant loss in revenue earned through tips. For a lot of our staff, it cost them more to get to work than they were able to earn.  Our staff went into lockdown scared and with a fraction of their regular wage.

Our staff always strive to give their very best and they love jobs.  Our regular customers will know the attention our staff gives. They know your favorite place to sit, they know your favorite drink and preferred dish, they even know how you like your steak. I know they miss all our customers and can’t wait to get back there to do it again.

In this time of isolation, I hear from the staff all the time telling me how they miss working and want to know from me when we will start again. I am getting messages of pleading requests “There is no food for the children Dayle, please help”. They are sending me pictures of their empty fridges and cupboards. As the days go by, we are all trying to keep our spirits up but it is very difficult when you are hungry and there seems no way of solving that problem.

Fat Harrys has every intention of reopening when this is all said and done, but we are very aware that our industry will be one of the last to be reintroduced into the economy and we will have many restrictions placed on us. We know it will take a very long time to get back into a position where we can once again employ and pay our staff as they have been accustomed. We just need to get there and for this, we need your help.

I figure if everybody gives a little and shares this with their friends and family and they, in turn, are able to give just a little then together it will add up and we can start feeding our staff and their families.

All funds raised will be shared equally amongst our staff as soon as possible because the situation is dire.  With your continued support, we aim to assist all of our staff through this difficult time and save as many jobs as possible.

Donations will literally mean the difference between survival and starvation.

Every cent will be equally shared among the staff.  Only the Back a Buddy fees will be deducted from the funds raised.
