Durban Child & Youth Care Centre

Personal message

The Durban Child & Youth Care Centre (DCYCC) was established in 1905 dedicated to providing substitute care to orphans, destitute children and children with parents who were unable to care for them. From providing traditional custodial care for children, the organisation has evolved over time in compliance to the Welfare Policy in South Africa. This has ensured that the children, youth and their families referred to our programme receive an effective, efficient and relevant service. DCYCC believes in family preservation and thus family reunification is given focused attention, with the importance of early intervention and preventative work being recognised. Our programmes and services are accessed by children from all over Kwa-Zulu Natal. It is due to the high levels of unemployment, poverty, crime, domestic violence, substance abuse, sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS that left many children vulnerable and in need of safe and empowering programmes offered by our organization.
