Since 1996, Exotic Animal World (previously Butterfly World) has been an important part of the wider Cape Town Metropolitan and Winelands community.

We rescue, rehabilitate, and give a home to abandoned exotic pets and occasionally to indigenous wildlife species that have been brought in. We also receive exotic animals that have been confiscated by conservation authorities and animal welfare agencies.

We have educated thousands of learners, and continue to teach school children the magic of nature and respect for all creatures. We are the destination for countless magical family outings. However, like most companies, we were hit hard by the Covid-19 Lockdown restrictions. Almost overnight our entire income was cut off.

No visitors, no schools, no families. We have over 700 amazing creatures in our care, but looking after and feeding them is an ongoing and expensive operation. We are so grateful to have a dedicated group of staff members necessary to take care of them.

As the Covid-19 crisis continues, we have seen an increase in the number of donated animals, due to pet owners not being able to afford their care. In some cases, animals entrusted to us arrive with health issues that need attention due to incorrect husbandry.

Animal welfare and protection is our main priority! We provide veterinary care where necessary, which adds to the substantial list of expenses already incurred.

We urgently need your help to keep Exotic Animal World open!

Exotic Animal World Logo

Exotic Animal World gives a home to abandoned exotic pets. These animals are surrendered by owners or brought to us by conservation authorities. We receive dozens of animals, birds, fish and all sorts of creepy crawlies every month and continually strive to give them the best life possible. We do this, whilst being a fun, educational and guilt-free destination and attraction for families.
