A Mom's Dream to see her Children's Faces

Hi all, Shireen is 29 years old. She has been struggling with her sight since she was 18 years old. Her condition,  keratoconus, went undiagnosed for a long time.
Shireen's a very compassionate person - she plays a very active role in our support group. Not a day goes by when she's not sending messages of encouragement and kindness. She's the first person to "High Five" and congratulate someone who has received their lenses, which must be very difficult as she waits patiently for hers.
In her teens she loved being around family and friends, but her blindness has led to a very isolated life. She cannot go outdoors on her own - it's not safe for her to walk her kids to school or take public transport alone anymore. Her husband works long hours as a driver. If she needs to go shopping whilst he's out of town, her 8 year daughter has to read the price tags for her.
Shireen used to work for one of the big food retailers, but had to stop working because her sight became too poor. She'd love to go back to work as soon as her sight is restored.
Shireen is legally blind - she has just 8% sight in her left eye and can only see light out of her right eye. She is a mum of two gorgeous young girls.

Her sight is so poor she can't SEE their faces. Unable to read her girls their bedtime stories or help them with their school work, Shireen feels like she's failing her children. With your help, we can help her to see fully again.
Can you imagine this mum's joy when she gets to see her girl's face clearly for the first time!!

Helping a blind mom get her sight back is priceless.

Shireen will be able to do all the things that Mom's love to do with their kids - reading, helping with their homework, teaching them new things, watching them do sport and extra murals - fully sighted!

She will also be able to work again so that she can afford to provide for her family.

Funds raised will cover the cost of :

Multiple Cornea Scans and Mapping

Cost of lens manufacture and import
4 months follow up evaluation

Eyes2Eyes Logo

Eyes2Eyes is a registered Non-Profit Organisation passionate about changing the lives of people with avoidable blindness from cornea disease. Through the supply of new diagnostic technology and highly customised scleral lenses to  patients with cornea disease in South Africa, we are giving people the gift of sight and reducing the devastating impact of blindness.

We are also raising awareness about the need for the procurement of cornea tissue within our own borders. At the moment, cornea tissue is imported at great expense. Please consider registering as an organ and tissue donor in South Africa, and if you do, please have the conversation with your family, who ultimately makes the decision on your demise.

If you'd like to chat with us about how corneas are procured, please don't hesitate. The procedure is gentle and does not disfigure the donor.
