Flying for Little Fighters

Personal message

Swimming around Cape Point is not for the faint of heart. Cold water, powerful swells and currents as well as active wildlife ensure that rounding the Cape of Storms wearing just a speedo, goggle and a swim cap will always be regarded as an extreme swim.

Jeffreys Bay swimmer Brenton Williams is one of the few swimmers who have successfully rounded Cape Point and he will be attempting to round it again during May – but this time he will be swimming butterfly all the way! Brenton has completed a number of unprecedented butterfly swims, including a Cape Town to Robben Island swim, as well as a 17 Km swim in Marina Martinique during December 2012. He has also completed the gruelling Deep Blue Invitational swim in St Helena Bay doing only butterfly as well as the Bell Buoy Challenge in Algoa Bay (Port Elizabeth).

Inspired by "Swim For Hope", the recent group swim which raised much needed funds for Little Fighters Cancer Trust, Brenton has decided to dedicate his Cape Point butterfly rounding attempt to the same wonderful charity, which supports children with cancer and their families.

"Kids who are fighting cancer need all the support we can give them and I will be dedicating all my future butterfly swims to raise funds for the Little Fighters Cancer Trust, who assist the kids and their families," said Brenton.

Brenton will be on standby for the Cape Point rounding from 10 May and will make an attempt as soon as conditions permit.

He will also attempt an unprecedented 8km rounding of Cape St Francis in the Eastern Cape on 26 April, as preparation for his Cape Point swim.  The Little Fighters team will be in Cape St Francis cheering him on, and the public is invited to follow the attempt and start donating towards Flying For Little Fighters!

If Brenton successfully rounds Cape St Francis, it will be the first time in history that a successful Cape St Francis swim will be recorded, and added to this feat, in the butterfly stroke, none the less!

NOTE: This is not a public event. It is our own exclusive occasion. Unique, unmatched and incredibly special!

Little Fighters Cancer Trust

Little Fighters Cancer Trust Logo

The Little Fighters Cancer Trust supports Children with Cancer and their Families.

In cases where there is no family support structure, such as in oncology wards in Children's Homes and Places of Safety, we are often the only line of support which these young Cancer Fighters have.

Our approach to support is holistic, where we look not only at providing practical and financial support, but also concentrate hugely on emotional support and providing relief where needs, in and out of hospital, are concerned.
