For the love of Lubanzi

For the love of Lubanzi

Personal message

Lubanzi and his mother have been receiving learning support from Bright Eyes Centre for two years.

Yesterday our sweet boy ended his first day back at the centre with a devastating seizure that lasted well over an hour. The situation called for a private ambulance to transport our boy after provincial ambulance services admitted they had no vehicles available. As his condition deteriorated rapidly the call was made to admit him to the nearst emergency rooms to be stabalised before arranging a transfer to a government hospital.

Lubanzi is now stable and will soon be sent home but I cannot bring it over my heart to leave it here. After speaking to his Mother I learned that the clutch on her car had recently been damaged. Lubanzi's seizures are triggered by stress, fatigue and an overstimulating environment. The fact that she no longer has use of her car means she is forced to use public transport which poses the risk of further seizures for her son. Everyday away from the Centre for Lubanzi is day without work for Mom.

As a single mom doing all she can for her son Nonthobeka deserves our support. Please help us cover her costs for his medical treatment as well as repaires to her car. She is doing all she can I can vouch that this mommy really just needs a break.

Lubanzi needs to be back at Bright Eyes Centre so Mommy can get back to work as she is the sole breadwinner for her little family. Please help us make this possible.

The Bright Eyes Trust Logo

Bright Eyes is an early intervention and care center specializing in the foundation phase education of visually impaired children, some of whom are multi-disabled.  Bright Eyes Centre for Visually Impaired Children was established in 2009 in response to a need to provide critical early intervention services to blind and partially sighted pre-school children and support to their families.

Most people process information visually. For those with visual impairments, a different approach is required. Our teaching approach, therefore, entails bringing the ‘world’ to the blind child and engaging in more regular one-on-one interaction to expand the child’s knowledge, perceptions and life experiences.

Bright Eyes runs a full pre-school program and aftercare service.  We work to ensure that our children are given an equal opportunity to a quality foundation education and that they are well prepared for formal schooling.

We are driven by our passion to make a difference in the lives of visually impaired children by striving to provide the best levels of care, intervention, and educational strategies adapted and suited to their unique needs.
