Freedive for Nina Virtual Charity Event

Personal message

Our friend and mermaid sister Nina Meiring, sadly and very suddenly, took her last breath in March this year.  Nina was a fundamental and hugely-loved member of the Cape Town Freediving community.  She had big dreams to share her freedive passion with the world, with more energy and drive than all of us combined!
November is Nina’s birthday month and in celebration of her vibrant energy and life force, we have come together to do what Nina loved best; to freedive.  For the Ocean.

As freedivers we have the immense privilege to be deeply connected to the ocean. This was no different for Nina.  The ocean was Nina’s favourite place, it was the only place she could let go, relax, be still and feel free. The ocean, to anyone who has spent any time near, on or in it, is a place of sanctuary, wonder and life. Science has proven that we become kinder, more balanced and focused humans in and around water.

The ocean has in many ways become the focal point of the catastrophic issues we are facing as a global society; think plastic pollution, water pollution, overfishing, global warming.
It is with these issues in mind, that we feel called into action to do what Nina would have done; to use our breath, our voices our determination - our community - to take action!

Cape Town Freediving, supported by the UCT Underwater Club and facilitated by Ant’s Pool, have organised a fundraiser freedive competition - to build awareness with every breath, every minute and every meter we spend under the water surface.

With YOUR help, we CAN make a difference.  Funds raised over the next 30 days are in support of 3 Cape-Town born, ocean-based charities, who are making huge strides in raising awareness and working towards a cleaner and healthier ocean.

I am Water
The Beach Co-op
#SeaTheBiggerPicture.

At the heart of these charities are freedivers, ocean loving humans who have dedicated their time and expertise to solving the issues facing our oceans and our society, head on!
These charities are focussing on education through experience - sharing snorkel experiences to create awareness, to reconnect our youth back to the ocean.
They organise beach clean ups, facilitate conservation workshops and enable our underprivileged Cape Town Youth to experience, be inspired and changed by the ocean.

It only takes a few moment of experiencing the underwater world to realise just how special this place, this sanctuary is.
It will only take a few such moments for the vast majority of humans to be called into action, to DO something to protect this special place!

This is YOUR chance to be part of the Ocean Tribe, to DO something!  For the Ocean.
