There is a desparate need to train professionals in Southern Africa to provide Paediatric Palliative Care for children with life-limiting illnesses. Every year a group of enthusiastic postgraduate professionals enroll on the Diploma in Palliative Medicine (Paediatric stream) at the University of Cape Town. UCT is the only University in South Africa runing this course. The course fees are R 50 000 excluding the cost of 3 trips down to Cape Town for lectures and exams. Unfortunately bursary funds that were promised for some of our students this year (2019) have not materialized leaving 5 of them without course fees for the second half of the year. All of these students including a doctor from Lesotho, a social worker, nurse, occupational and Physio-therapist will not be able to complete the year if no funding is found for their studies. PatchSA as a compassionate network supporting patients and professionals seeks to raise funds for these students to help them graduate. Please help us to help them. Not only will it benefit the professionals but it will also ultimately benefit the patients that they care for and the colleagues that they teach.
