Get Terence Off the Streets

Get Terence Off the Streets

Personal message

There's no denying that the economy in South Africa is tough. So tough, in fact, that it is seeing determined, passionate and capable young individuals living on the street. An individual who knows this hardship all-too-well is 28-year-old Terence, a young man who hopes of one day working in IT - he has been using the public libraries in Randburg to study free online courses. He matriculated from Pinetown High School in 2008 with university entrance. Life hasn't been so easy since then, with many people letting him down and subsequently leaving him homeless and destitute. I see him weekly atFountain for the Thirsty and have recently become concerned about him. Over the last few weeks he is becoming increasingly disconnected and low. We feel like we might be losing him to his circumstances!

So far Fountain for the Thirsty have ensured that he can write his IT and computer literacy exams through COMPTIA and are also organising a laptop for him but we need to get him off the street.

When told about his exams, he replied: I do appreciate all that you have done and for the support, I know it’s not easy. Soon I will be on my feet and pay it forward". This young man is going places, he just needs a helping hand to get there.

We need you to dig deep, this young man could be your son. Without a roof over his head he has very little opportunity to complete his studies, get a job and pay it forward, as he’s promised.

Money raised will cover rent, living expenses, transport to and from interviews as well as furniture for his room.
