Gilan & Jos Fire Rescue Fund

Personal message

A massive fire swept through the Plettenberg Bay area on Tuesday the 28th of February 2017. Many farms and a few houses burned to the ground. Our amazing friends Gilan and Jos Broersen and their two beautiful children were severely affected by this devastating fire. By a complete miracle, their wooden house didn’t burn, even though it burned all around the house with the flames coming within 2 feet of the house.

However, everything else burned. Jos’ workshop with all his wood working tools, all the water tanks besides one, most of the piping, fencing, what to speak of all their beautiful fruit trees and other plants and children’s toys. Sadly their beloved cat Suki also didn’t make it.

Gilan is a kindergarten teacher and 4 months pregnant, so it is of utmost importance that Jos gets his workshop up and running again so he can earn a living. Besides the fact that he needs to completely rebuild the workshop he also needs to replace all his tools. They also need new water tanks and piping and fencing materials as a bare minimum to get back on their feet.

So right now we are pleading with our greater community to find it in their hearts to donate financial contributions, even if it is just a little, every little bit helps. Let’s show them some love after this devastating stressful experience and stand strong as a community and help each other.
