Girl Called Africa

Personal message

Girl Called Africa is a registered Non Profit Organisation (NPO214-457) and Public Benefit Organization (930064499).

Our objective is to Empower Women and Children to stop the cycle of abuse through education.

1 Out of 5 women in the Western Cape suffer abuse.

22% Of these women suffered abuse as recently as the last 12 months.

1 Out of 3 children in South Africa suffer sexual abuse before the age of 18.

These are heart breaking statistics. Through our workshops offered at schools, we educate teens ages 13-19 on the types of abuse, the longterm effects and reporting of abuse. A very BIG emphasis is placed on BULLYING at schools, with the Western Cape showing the highest number of reported BULLY INCIDENTS in South Africa!

It costs R40 to put one child through the Abuse Awareness workshop, we hope to put 3000 township teens through the workshop by December 2019.

About the founder – Brenda Meyer

Being an abuse survivor, founding Girl Called Africa came from a very personal place for Brenda.

“As an abuse survivor, I realised that change starts with me, and that I should take my personal experience to teach the youth and create a better South Africa. If I can change just 1 life every day, my job is done! “Brenda
