Gary Kirsten Foundation Centre of Cricket Excellence

Personal message

Despite this turbulent year of Covid-19 and the many hardships suffered in the communities in which we work, we’re excited to announce that we are ending 2020 on a positive note with the Construction of the GKF Indoor Centre!

But… we urgently need your help to complete this one-of-a-kind project to uplift the future of the community of Makhaza in Khayelitsha.

This Indoor Centre, along with the recently built Artificial Cricket Oval at Chris Hani Secondary School, in Khayelitsha, will form the:

Gary Kirsten Foundation ‘Centre of Cricket Excellence’

The ‘Centre of Cricket Excellence’ is the first its kind in a township in South Africa and will become the high-performance hub of all Gary Kirsten Foundation activities and township cricket in the region.

What will the GKF Indoor Centre be used for?

The Centre will comprise a 3-lane practice net facility and provide a world-class, all-weather facility for players of all ages and their coaches to hone their skills without leaving their own community.

Along with the artificial field, the Indoor Centre will:

·      Provide all year-round access to cricket coaching all schools in the region, especially those without their own sporting facilities.

·      Become a centre of learning and training for coaches, educators and players.

·      Provide access to tablets and free WIFI connectivity for all learners, coaches and educators.

Skills for our coaches and players of tomorrow...

The GKF Indoor Centre will also serve as a ‘Coaches Training Centre’, where township coaches serving the Foundation and beyond will go through the ‘CoachED’ programme as well as skills development training programmes.

These programmes provide life-long technical cricket coaching skills as well as life-long professional skills, ensuring they continue to design and lead the GKF sporting programmes in the township while building skills that will empower them to build income sustaining cricket coaching careers.

Huge thanks must already go to...

·      The Millenium Trust’s donation, from which the concrete foundations and steel structure of the centre have been funded.

·      The Cohen family, for a significant contribution in memory of their father.

·      Vodacom for 30 Tablets and a digital Smart Board.

·      RSAWeb having committed to connecting the centre with high-speed WIFI connectivity.

to finish this incredible project, we need your help!

So why not become part of this exciting initiative?

You can help by donating either funds or equipment to kit out the centre and turn it into the sporting and educational centre of excellence that we envisage.

If you are in a position to donate equipment of any kind, please email [email protected].
