When Naledi, aged 4, from Johannesburg was 6 months old she was put in the care of our organisation, Juno Aurora Haven, a home for abused and neglected children in Sandton.

When we met little Naledi, she was tiny and underdeveloped. With healthy food, love and encouragement, we have seen her blossom until the princess she is today. She is such a vibrant, inquisitive, busy and loving child. She steals the hearts of everyone who meets her.

When Naledi was taken to a pediatrician for a regular checkup three years ago, it was discovered that she had a heart defect, a growth just below the left aorta. The news was devastating and so began the waiting game.

As the growth needed to increase in size in order to be safely removed, her cardiology team at Johannesburg Hospital saw Naledi for regular visits, to determine when her surgery should take place.

In May 2020, upon seeing a slight trickle of blood mixing, Naledi’s doctor gave the go ahead for her to have surgery within the next 6 months.

With her surgery scheduled to take place within the next 2 months, we have launched this campaign, in hopes to raise the much needed funds to correct the hole in Naledi’s heart and ultimately save her life.

Over the past few weeks Naledi has been tiring more easily and sleeping more than she usually does during the day. We are doing our best to keep her safe and keep her spirits up. We know that without this operation, she won’t be with us much longer and that’s too difficult to contemplate.

While the full cost of Naledi’s surgery and recovery are still to be confirmed,we have set our fundraising target at R100 000 in the meantime, to cover the costs of her operation, medication, medical supplies, sterilization equipment as well as a home nurse.

Juno Aurora Haven

Juno Aurora is a home for children coming from severe financially disadvantaged homes. At the moment we provide a home for 18 children aged from 1 to 9 years. Some of these children are orphaned, others the mothers are HIV+ and unemployed and are therefore unable to take care of them. We do what we are able to to assist the mothers to get onto treatment and counseliing and to get them healthy again. We strive to get the moms working and to place the children back with them. So far we have placed 19 children sucessfully back with their mothers or family.

The children are provided with all their daily needs, medical needs and schooling, and lots of love and care.

Juno Aurora's vision is to build a nation by supporting the disempowered children and thus making South Africa a better place to live. We want to provide our children with a safe home, loving care, healthy food, healthcare and education. We want to make Juno Aurora a financially sustainable children's home and want to give the children a solid base so they can become responsible adults with a gentle soul.
