Help Garcelle Travel to Compete (Gymnastics)

Personal message

Garcelle Napier is a grade 7 scholar and a High Performance gymnast at the
prestigious Johannesburg Gymnastics
Centre (JGC) in Newlands.

She is a talent to be reckoned with. Her
small physique, excellent strength, flexibility and strong work ethic is going to make her a world class gymnast in years to come.

Garcelle started gymnastics at the age of 5.
Initially, she trained at Golden Lions in
Newlands as an acrobatic gymnast, but soon moved to Artisitc Gymnastics at JGC, and
has shown enormous progress. She has
gradually worked her way up the levels and has shown complete commitment to her
goals. She trains approximately 30 hours per week and is a great asset to JGC’s program.

Her medium-term goals include being part of the African Championships team that will be competing in Southern Africa in 2020. And her long-term goal, is to qualify for the
Olympic Games in 2024.

Career highlights:

She competed in the Junior Olympic section in 2018 and placed second overall at National Championships on 14 September. As the youngest competitor of the field, her
placing against gymnasts older and more experienced than her, is a truly remarkable
achievement and a testament to how talented and hard working she is.

Garcelle was selected as the reserve for the Junior African Championships team. She
was also selected to participate in the Olympic Hopes competition in the Czech
Republic in November 2018. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funds, Garcelle could not
attend this competition, which has been a devastating blow for us all.

In 2017, Garcelle competed in the National Championships where she placed 1st in her section. She won the Gymnast of the Year award for Class 3 at the Central Gauteng
Gymnastics Association Prize Giving and attended an international training camp in the Netherlands in March 2017, where she was coached by some of the top coaches in the Netherlands.
She also competed at the Serbia Memorial Competition where she qualified for
apparatus finals on Floor exercise.

In 2016, Garcelle competed in Orlando Florida USA at the USAIGC world
championships and won various apparatus medals.

Garcelle lives in Westbury with her mom, Michelle. Their circumstances are far from
ideal and in order for her to be able to continue training gymnastics and travelling
abroad in order to prepare her for the 2020 African Championships, she requires
funding urgently.

She is coached by highly qualified and experienced coaches, Ilse Roets Pelser,
Candice Cronje and Leeland Christian. Ilse, in her capacity as National Coach for the
past 20 years, knows what is required to get Garcelle where she needs to be to fulfill
her dreams
Among these requirements are:
1. Training at least 2 mornings per week, 6.30am-8.45am.
2. Training 6 afternoons per week for 4.5 hours at a time.
3. Maintaining a high level of commitment and dedication to the sport she loves so much.

Garcelle’s monthly gymnastics fees amount to approximately R1500. This includes a
biokineticist, ballet, a sport psychologist, dancing, massage, practice and competition
wear and competition entry fees. This amount excludes international travelling costs.

Garcelle will have the opportunity to attend one International competition again in 2019 at an estimated cost of R22 000. Below is a breakdown:

Visa costs
R 1500
R 5000
South African Kit
R 3500
Spending money
R 1500
Travel Insurance
R 500
R22 000

Garcelle is ambitious, driven, self-motivated and a worthy investment. Her phenomenal
work ethic and fantastic attitude makes her an absolute pleasure to coach.

If you are interested in assisting Garcelle in any capacity we would be eternally grateful.
