Help victims of Helen Bowden occupation

Personal message

We are urgently raising funds for an emergency safe house for victims of violence at the Helen Bowden occupation in Green Point, Cape Town, South Africa. The people affected include survivors of human rights violations, including gender based violence, mob violence, torture and illegal evictions. They went into the occupation because of a housing crisis and they were homeless/desperate for housing, but inside the occupation they found themselves badly abused. We need short term emergency accommodation for these traumatised people, for two months.

It will cost in total approximately R30 000 ($2103). This funding will give them valuable time to attend counseling, heal, up-skill, and explore job opportunities. Any funds that are not used for accommodation will be used to up-skill survivors to prepare them for job opportunities. They want to work and contribute to society. They just need time to heal, support each other emotionally, be in a safe space, attend counselling, and prepare themselves for a brighter future. Please help our community by donating what you can.

All funds will be paid into the bank account of Sea Point Community Support, an organisation that "aims to advocate for and support vulnerable people in the Atlantic Seaboard area of the Western Cape, specifically those who are historically disadvantaged."
