What am I raising money for?

High school children with inabilities and their families need our help. The children are from a very isolated special needs school in Veerenigeng, South of Gauteng Province. Because all schools have had to be shut down,  their boarding school  Ithas had to shutdown early means the children have had to go home early and for an extended period without their usual special care resources. And most families have very little resources to care for them as much as they would like.

When I was studying at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy, many of my teachers thought I should start a foundation, and so I started an initiative - Holding Albus. I suppose it was my passion for NGO work and I'd like to think my capacity to never stop giving.

My work with Holding Albus is to advocate for marginalised populations that have inabilities and active about albinism. I am passionate about making resources available to my niche. Every child and youth deserves that. I make sure to get involved in policy that support platforms where transformation and inclusion can be fostered. I have served as the UNDP Youth Panel Leader, and was nominated as a social entrepreneur at the launch of their Accelerator Lab. I have represented Holding Albus and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in the South African Parliament. I am currently working with Amnesty International to further research on Albinism and it's affects in South Africa simultaneously searching insights on our upcoming blog and YouTube channel.

We have plenty of children from low-income households and the lockdown will and has affected them already, I would really, really like to help them pull through during this difficult time. There are very little regulations that consider disability (inability) needs and care.

What will the money be used for?

1. 65 x R300 Food packets

2. 65 x Flu vaccinations and medical examination

3  150 socks/ handkerchiefs for DIY masks +  150 senitisers

4. 65 x R 70 airtime for emergency contact

5. 1x R10,000 Support Specialist consultants

6. R2,000 fuel for visits (unforseen needs family specific)

7. Winter supplies

Helping the children and their families will need a lot of money. And I know there are a lot of you that want to help. The funds will go towards food packages, masks and senitiser for families of the learners, a nurse and specialist to give vaccines and recommend methods for safety at home. We will also require airtime for many families who can't afford to communicate with other families, keep up with the news and communicate with relatives and emergency services. We estimate we will have 2 weeks to raise the funds. Three weeks at most.

The funds will be sent to our account for purchase of all required equipment and procurement of a medical consultant. During home visits to families, few case specificm needs may be required and we would like to cover those at a basic level as well.

My name is Abongile Xhantini the Founder and Director of Holding Albus, which provides learning resources and social support for learners with albinism.  I would like your help with raising funds for their special care and health needs. Many children are struggling to find places to stay and the only place that makes sense is to continue being in quarantine at the boarding school.
