I Challenge You

Personal message

Project Playground Trust is a non-profit organization founded in 2010. Project Playground provides hope and future for children within the extremely poor communities of Langa and Gugulethu.

Our children come from broken families, abusive families, homes without electricity, homes without enough food, homes without adequate shelter. They go to schools without proper school books, proper school benches or proper teachers. Sport is often not on the curriculum, and in the rare occasions it happens to be, facilities are often very neglected. With a total of almost 800 children, Project Playground offers these children after school opportunities in soccer, netball, drama, art, music, dance and learning. Project Playground extends its services to provide the children with a nutritious daily meal and psychological support, conducting home visits which build a full picture of what each individual child needs.

To honour the commitment to every child’s right to development and opportunities, Project Playground started Play On Wheels in February 2012 and is our inclusive division which focuses on improving lives of children and young adults with various intellectual and physical disabilities. We have a strong individual focus with a child/carer ratio of 4:1 where our Occupational Therapist leads the team of edu-carers and together use activity based therapy to address a variety of challenges our participants face in the tasks of their everyday lives.

$30 can fund a month of art supplies for our art division

$40 can allow 4 children at Project Playground to go on an excursion outside their township

$50 can feed a child at Project Playground for a whole year

By contributing to our vision, you will be creating a world in our fractured South African society, where every child and youth grow up with a belief in the future and the opportunity to positively impact their own lives. Project Playground prides itself as an organisation where teamwork is key, compliance is paramount, innovation and creativity is encouraged and strength is gained through shared knowledge and partnership.
